What did we do before we had GPS systems. When they became available, and affordable about 5 years ago, my husband said I am going to get you a Garmin. I have the worst sense of direction. When gas was plentiful, and we used to go on Sunday afternoon drives, my husband would ask me where to turn, or what direction to go in to get home, I would answer and he would go the opposite way, even if he was not sure. It worked all the time.
The only thing with these systems is, if you rely on them, and they hit dead air space, you are up a creek without a paddle. I always have written instructions to fall back on. Also if you go into a city such as Boston, where exits are being replaced, ramps and roads are being done away and replaced, you could find yourself, as I did going around in circles.
